Pumped Storage Projects
Pumped Storage Technology is increasingly gaining prominence due to its inherent advantages such as Quick on/off response of turbine, quick Response to generation variability to stabilise grid and being the best mechanism to help integrate the intermittent energy resources with system in order to help improve grid efficiency.
WAPCOS has extensive experience in the field of Pumped storage projects since more than 2 decades. It has successfully provided consultancy services from Concept to Commissioning, for Purulia pumped Storage project, (900 MW) in West Bengal which is under operation. Currently we are providing consultancy services for Turga Pumped Storage Project, (1000 MW), West Bengal, Kundah Pumped Storage Project, (450 MW), Tamil Nadu and Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project, (600 MW), Odisha.
Rapid industrialisation has resulted in exponential increase in energy requirement. Fossil fuels are limited in nature and fast depleting. The requirement of energy met from fossil fuels causes high emission of greenhouse gases which results in climate change. The renewable energy resources such as Solar, Wind and hydroelectricity are found prominence but are unreliable and intermittent resource of energy generation. Pumped storage Hydro electric energy is the proven technology in use for energy storage across the world. This technology is a mechanical storage of the energy in which water is lifted to the upper reservoir by pumping mechanism through extra electricity during off-peak time. The stored potential energy in the upper reservoir is used to generate electricity by turbines when they are needed. Pumping is similar to charging the batteries for future use.
